I finally got around to switching to 2005.0, I had to emerge the new kernel headers to get the script to work, but after that it went without a hassle.
After reemerging the emul-linux-x86 libs I got some 32 bit programs (like opera) working again, but I still can't get the games running that I had before. Both doom3 and quake3 seg fault after trying to open libGL.so.1
How do I fix this?
****UPDATE***
I unmerged emul-linux-x86-nvidia and quake 3 started working again. Doom 3 still doesn't work, but now it says my card doesn't have the features it needs, which is a different error.
Here's what I get when I try to run doom3:
dlopen(libasound.so.2)
asoundlib version: 1.0.5

Hello all!
Well here's my new problem. I just wanted to re-encode a couple of videos -640x480 WMV9 @ 120fps- to -640x480 XViD @ 29,97fps- Now when TMPGEnc finished encoding everything is fine, the quality, the sound everything but, video is going to fast! It's like duble fast forwarded, and I was wondering how do I fix this? I found the WMV9 versions online and have no experience what-so-ever with WMV9 so if there is no way to make this into xvid could comeone tell me how do I keep everything like it is and just insert some subtitles (.ass)? I really don't care what codec the video uses as lonmg as it works like it should
P.S. Please if you think that WMV9 is a good way to do this please post a link to en encoder that can do this
Strange this one :
When I encode using MainConcept MPEG Encoder 1.3.1, my output video is created using separate video/audio, but the video always comes out way to 'blue'
Best way to describe it, is as if someone has turned the blue level all the way up, I've uninstalled, cleared anything relating to the encoder out of the sytem/registry/etc, reinstalled, still does it
Is this down to some filter/codec ?
No video settings are touched in the encoder, just alter the CBR rate, and set it up for DVD output, and thats basically it. I don't touch any of the advanced video settings, mainly 'cos I'm not sure what they do !!
I have the Ace Codec pack installed, latest version, apart from thsi annoying problem, I have nothing else going wrong
Thanks for any help
I've just got a brand new Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 (an extremely compact unit), but my homemade DVD+RW and VCD (on CDR and CDRW) result in very jerky playback - the video freezes for a moment every several seconds. These discs play just fine in my last century's Sony DVP-S550.
Most probably none of you has had an experience with this unit (google couldn't find anything), but I thought I saw similar problems mentioned with regard to other Cyberhome models - 402 and 500. Have they fixed it via BIOS update?
Thanks in advance,
Vladimir
After having acquired 2 older units from a friend who says he no longer needs them, I was wondering what people are using as playback for their VHS tapes, since this will also affect the quality of their captures.
My main playback deck is a JVC S-VHS 3800 which is a servicable enough deck and has a video stabilizer, though no TBC. However, I've recently acquired some older decks that were real prosumer equipment when they came out, a Hitachi VT-S730 (S-VHS) and a Sony SLV-R5UC (also S-VHS) that originally cost my friend over $1,200USD! Both units are easily fixable for problems (usually, the capacitors dry out and have to be replaced, lubrication needed, etc.)
A site that has repair guides for the Sony SLV-R5UC also lists some other old units that make excellent NLE or home theatre centre pieces so I was wondering what others are using for transferring (S)VHS content to DVD?
Unsure of the correct terminology here...in fact I wish there was a guide that could help me but I can't seem to find it.
I have an mpeg1 that is VERY wide screen...in fact, viewing it on PowerDVD to me looks like trying to view a movie on a ribbon...ie the top third and the bottom third of the viewing area are black. I believe this black region is called the letterbox...correct me if I'm wrong. What I would like to accomplish is removing the black area on top and bottom and resize the video to play on my standard television. I think this can be done with VirtualDub frameserved to TMPGEnc but without explicit instructions, I can't get this to work. Can anyone help??? Also, am I trying to CROP or not?

hello, I am using HI 8 to capture on Ulead movie factory. My goal is to burn to DVD-R with best sound and picture.
The following are the capture settings i used:
30 fps
720 x 480 resolution, UYVY (what does UYVY mean?)
48khz, 16 bit stereo sound
video capture filter (video properties)
Anyway I captured 60 seconds of video to AVI and it took up 555 megabytes of storage space. There is no way I can store 2 hours of video tape to my hard drive.
Why does it take up so much space? What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone explain to me this paradox?
I have a video file from cce 2.5(CBR 980kbps) about 520MB big and an audio MP2 file from Toolame about 190MB.
When I multiplex them in Tmpgenc 2.02, I get MPEG-1(XVCD) file of 710MB. It gives me a message about possible playing problems.
When I multiplex in BBMPEG the very same files,I get 1GB mpeg-1 file for the first try(mpeg1 selected) and 847 MB in second try(VCD selected).
How is that possible?
I just spent half the morning feeling pretty depressed because I thought my proc amp had gone out on me, in the middle of a major project. With money being tight as it is these days, I'd have been between a rock and a hard place.
As always, I started to look for other answers. Lo and behold, after placing musical equipment, it turns out that an s-video cable was slipping out! Hooray!
Not only that, I found two other wires plugged in, but not as snug as I would prefer.
Stupid gravity!
Anyway, take a minute here, go check your wiring. It never hurts to be safe.
